Flowers and plant

As the weather is so glorious at the moment, I though it would be great to give you some hints and tips for your flowers, plants and the garden.
FLOWERS

Adding a few drops of bleach to vase water will prevent stagnant water & wont harm the flowers

A small piece of charcoal in a vase will keep water odourless & pure

Wide neck vases can make arranged flowers look even if you stick tape each way on top to make squares.

Use a fine knitting needle to make holes in oasis so it will hold delicate stems too.

When arranging flowers if you break a stem too short , put it into a drinking straw to correct length.

When cutting stems at an angle do it under water so no air bubbles can form & stop water flow up stem.

Tulips live longer if you make a few little holes down the length of the stem

Daffodils last longer if cut above the white stem base & placed in very cold water in a cool place for an hour & add a copper coin to vase.

INDOOR PLANTS

If a pot plant is flagging & limp water it everyday with cold tea. The minerals will liven it up

Clean mother in law tongue (sansevieria trifurcata ) by wiping the green foliage every 3-4 weeks with a few drops of almond oil.

Put chrysanthemum s in a cool place over night to extend life, remove lower leaves & split ends before putting them in a vase.

For straight growing indoor plants rotate quarter of a turn weekly. Do not rotate cacti, once the flower buds have appeared..

  1. Thanks for the wonderful tips. Making home green is a good idea and it gives oxygen, fresh air, its good for health. One can create greenery with available space in the house, with many innovative ideas like in a top covered gallery, one can grow lianas that could creep towards the top, A small piece of ground can be created into a turf, can make a frontier with hibiscus or ficus for example and encircle it with trees. Likewise you can go for many such ideas. To get some more tips on creating greenery in your house, refer Green home
